"In our practice from mid-2020 to 2022, we treated many severely ill people," Roselle said. "Twenty-six critically ill COVID-19 patients were treated with Serratovir [a form of oleander extract]. Twenty-five of 26 recovered within 48 hours."
These claims have not been independently verified, and oleandrin is not approved by major regulatory bodies for treating COVID-19 or other viral infections.
Beyond COVID: neurodegeneration connection
Roselle's presentation extended beyond COVID-19 to suggest broader applications for oleandrin. He asserted that herpes simplex virus and other herpetic viruses can cross the blood-brain barrier and may contribute to neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease.
"Oleandrin can cross the blood-brain barrier to halt viral replication," he stated, adding that this property makes it potentially valuable for addressing viral contributions to conditions like dementia.
Resistance to adoption
Despite what Roselle described as promising research and clinical outcomes, he acknowledged that oleandrin remains largely unused in mainstream medicine. He attributed this primarily to economic factors.
"If oleandrin is so effective, why isn't it widely used?" Roselle asked rhetorically. "The answer, in my opinion, is profit motivation. Always ask: Who's presenting? What do they gain? Where's the money flow?"
Integrative approach advocated
Throughout his presentation, Roselle emphasized that oleandrin is most effective when used as part of a comprehensive treatment approach. At his practice, which reportedly sees about 600 patients weekly with 23 practitioners, oleandrin may be combined with acupuncture, neurological stimulation, lasers, and various frequency-based therapies.
"In our multi-dimensional practice, we combine many approaches," he explained. "We grand round every case."
Scientific scrutiny remains
While Roselle cited research from institutions including the Medical College of Wisconsin and Southern Methodist University, the scientific community broadly remains cautious about oleander derivatives. The plant's known toxicity and limited clinical trial data continue to raise safety concerns among medical authorities.
