I lost 150lbs twice W/ GCS & SOUND HEALTH
Cameron Cagney, Max Hernández, Eduardo Margerit
Battling ADHD and obesity from childhood, a journey of weight loss, addiction recovery, and health optimization led to embracing Austrian economics, Christianity, and Bitcoin’s sound money principles. Transitioning into IT within healthcare revealed systemic inefficiencies, inspiring development of a health-focused complex and private gym in El Salvador integrating sunlight and holistic wellness. Supported by GCS, plans include medical tourism facilities backed by innovative real estate investment strategies amid a unique tax-free, dollarized, and Bitcoin-friendly economy, leveraging sustainable construction and renewable energy expertise.
"One night, the scale that hadn't worked for weeks finally said 398.9 pounds. I was ready to stack sats. I knew I could master my own health, and through learning and perseverance, I started to come out of the darkness."

From addiction to innovation: the man who lost 150lbs twice and is building a health oasis in El Salvador
Personal transformation leads to pioneering health complex powered by Bitcoin principles
Cameron Cagney stood before a captivated audience at the Reclaiming Health & Longevity Symposium in El Salvador yesterday, sharing a story of remarkable transformation that has evolved from personal health journey to ambitious sustainable development project.
"I know I can master my own health," Cagney declared during his presentation alongside business partners Max Hernández and Eduardo Margerit from Grupo Integral de Construcciones y Servicios (GCS). Their joint vision: creating health-focused complexes in El Salvador that blend holistic wellness with sustainability and Bitcoin principles.
From pharmaceuticals to personal responsibility
Cagney's journey began with childhood obesity and a cascade of pharmaceutical interventions. By fourth grade, he weighed over 160 pounds, and by high school had ballooned to 390 pounds. Diagnosed with ADHD at age six, he was prescribed Adderall, followed by additional medications for the side effects.
"To treat the side effects of the Adderall, I was put on two more medications—Carbamazepine for epilepsy to treat my night terrors and Abilify to treat the depression and bipolar issues I was experiencing," Cagney recounted.
His first successful weight loss came in high school through eliminating processed foods and tracking his intake, but without a foundation of sound health principles, the results were temporary. After high school, working at McDonald's and returning to live with his parents, Cagney spiraled into multiple addictions.
"I worked hard, became a video game addict, a porn addict, a food addict, a drug addict. I lived online, got no sunlight," he told the symposium attendees.
The Bitcoin connection
The turning point came through an unexpected source: Austrian economics and Bitcoin. Through online education, Cagney began understanding sound money principles, which created a framework for approaching his health differently.
"Bitcoin is liquid, verifiable sound money. It is here and it's Bitcoin," Cagney explained, drawing parallels between sound monetary policy and what he calls "sound health."
This intellectual awakening coincided with a renewed commitment to his physical health. When he finally weighed himself after weeks of walking and dietary changes, the scale that had previously displayed only "error" showed 398.9 pounds—the beginning of his second major weight loss.
Developing an oasis of health in El Salvador
Cagney's personal transformation has evolved into an ambitious development project in El Salvador. After securing property in Playa San Diego and establishing a private gym, he partnered with GCS to develop what he calls "Sound Health Villas" and a broader health complex focused on medical tourism.
"I want to create a place where people can get away from fiat land and come practice sound health principles," Cagney explained.
Eduardo Margerit, COO of GCS, highlighted El Salvador's unique advantages for such projects: "First of all, we are one of the ten countries worldwide that doesn't pay property taxes. Secondly, we're a dollarized economy, and now a Bitcoin economy. Third, there's something unique—a limited supply of land and unlimited demand."
Sustainable development with engineering expertise
Max Hernández, CEO of GCS and civil engineer with experience in major infrastructure projects including El Chaparral Hydroelectric Dam, emphasized the sustainable aspects of their vision.
"Spaces that heal, inspire, and connect—our goal is simple: to build places that help people live better," Hernández told the audience, noting his background in renewable energy projects, including a Bitcoin mining facility powered by volcano energy.
The team envisions the Sound Health Complex as a destination where "extraordinary doctors and health experts from all over the world can come stay and practice" and where patients "can be seen and listened to, in person, as a person"—a stark contrast to Cagney's experiences in traditional healthcare settings.
A new model for health and wellness
What makes Cagney's approach distinct is the integration of multiple disciplines: nutrition, sunlight exposure, sustainable architecture, and economic principles drawn from Bitcoin's philosophy of scarcity and transparency.
For many attendees at the symposium, the presentation represented a compelling convergence of personal transformation, sustainable development, and innovative thinking about health. By prioritizing natural elements like sunlight and employing a holistic approach to wellness, Cagney and his partners are challenging conventional healthcare models.
"The idea is sculpting it into the Disneyland of health and hard money," Cagney said of the project, which has already secured initial permits and investment phases will soon open.
As the Reclaiming Health & Longevity Symposium continues through tomorrow, Cagney's story stands as a powerful testimony to the potential of personal transformation to spark wider innovation—and how principles from one domain, like cryptocurrency, can inform radical new approaches to health and wellness.
