The Science Of Coherence
The presentation reached for a wider theory of health, one that linked nervous system balance, metabolic function and organ health under a single term: coherence.
“You need to be in coherence,” Kärkkäinen said. “Coherence is a system balance between your organs, your nervous system, and your metabolic system.”
That language, borrowing as much from systems thinking as from medicine, was central to his argument. The body, in this view, does not fail in isolation. Stress disturbs sleep, poor sleep elevates cortisol, inflammation worsens recovery, circulation falters, and communication between cells becomes less efficient. Recovery, then, is not merely the absence of symptoms but the restoration of communication across the whole system.
“When you speed up circulation, your cells talk to each other in a much more efficient way,” he said. “Vibration helps restore the cellular communication necessary for recovery.”
Cortisol, Sleep And The Gut
Kärkkäinen also pointed to research that, in his telling, strengthened the case for vibration therapy. He referenced Swiss findings suggesting that vibration reaches the brain through neural circuits similar to those used by sound, and he cited evidence recognised by the US Olympic Committee in a 2016 meta-analysis showing vibration’s role in reducing delayed onset muscle soreness.
More provocatively, he highlighted research indicating that vibration could positively influence the gut microbiome while reducing inflammation.
Clinical promise often arrives dressed in bold language, and Kärkkäinen did not hold back. Lower cortisol, he said, was one of the crucial mechanisms behind better sleep, reduced anxiety and improved metabolic health.
“When you reduce levels of cortisol, you will have much more efficient sleep and your anxiety will decrease,” he said. “This is the key to deep health and recovery.”
In an era increasingly alert to the gut-brain axis, inflammation and nervous system overload, the idea landed with intuitive force. The body recovers not in fragments, but in networks.
Recovery For Athletes, Workers And The Sleep-Deprived
The ambition of Neurosonic was not confined to clinics. Kärkkäinen described protocols that ranged from quick 10 to 12 minute sessions designed to refresh workers during the day, to 39 to 41 minute programs aimed at pain relief, sleep support and deeper recovery. Morning activation, midday reset and evening relaxation were all part of the model.
He also pointed to use among elite athletes in Finland, where reducing muscle soreness and accelerating recovery can carry obvious competitive value. Yet the broader appeal lay elsewhere: in the possibility that the exhausted office worker, the anxious insomniac and the person living with chronic pain might all be addressed by variations of the same principle.

Whether all such claims withstand the full scrutiny of mainstream medicine is a question larger than any one summit talk. But Kärkkäinen’s presentation captured something that many in health and performance circles have been circling for years: recovery is not passive, sleep is not incidental, and regulation may be as biological as it is psychological.
In Helsinki, on that November afternoon, vibration was presented not as novelty, but as method. A low-frequency answer to a high-stress world.
