20 Powerful Strategies to Optimize Healthspan, Flow & Human Potential
Dr. Arpit Bansal — Cancer Surgeon, Longevity & Biohacking Specialist, Underwater Meditator, Marathon Runner
Dr. Arpit Bansal is a Laparoscopic Cancer Surgeon, Hospital Director, and global voice in longevity and biohacking with a thriving online health community of 112K+ followers. A TEDx speaker and media partner at leading biohacking summits, he presents the “Biohacking the 4 Bodies Blueprint”—20 practical tools across Earth, Water, Air, and Fire bodies to enhance healthspan. A certified Blue Mind advocate, he also offers underwater meditation experiences using SMACO tanks to reset the nervous system, activate flow, and connect mind-body through water.
Optimal longevity transcends disease avoidance, embracing synchronization with biology's four bodies: earth (physical), water (emotional), air (mental), and fire (spiritual). Key biohacks include cellular hydration, gut microbiome diversity, VO2 max, muscle strength, and deep sleep for the physical; blue mind, ice plunges, HRV mastery, breathwork, gratitude, and nature exposure for emotional; NSDR, neuroplasticity, reading, CO2 tolerance, and digital detox for mental; and purposeful living, fasting, sunlight, heart-brain coherence, and flow states for spiritual resilience. Nature and measured metrics guide sustained thriving, not mere survival.
"The secret isn't in hours. The secret is in flow. Live in the flow state where time expands, and start thriving—not just surviving."
Summary
- Biohacking aligns with the four bodies: Earth (physical), Water (emotional), Air (mental), and Fire (spiritual) to optimize health and longevity. - Key physical biohacks: cellular hydration, gut microbiome diversity, VO2 max tracking, muscle strength training, and quality deep sleep. - Emotional/body water biohacks emphasize calming the parasympathetic "blue mind," ice plunges, HRV monitoring, breathwork, gratitude, and nature therapy. - Mental/air biohacks include NSDR meditation, neuroplasticity via learning, reading, CO2 tolerance training, and daily digital detox for focus. - Spiritual/fire biohacks focus on finding purpose, fasting for autophagy, sunlight for circadian rhythm, heart-brain coherence, and training flow states for peak performance.

Cancer surgeon reveals "four bodies" approach to optimising healthspan at European biohacking summit
Dr. Arpit Bansal presented science-based strategies for longevity that transcend conventional health wisdom
At the HOLOLIFE Summit in Tallinn, Estonia last Friday, surgeon and biohacking expert Dr. Arpit Bansal introduced a novel framework for optimising human potential and longevity that goes beyond traditional health approaches.
The presentation, titled "20 Powerful Strategies to Optimize Healthspan, Flow & Human Potential," introduced attendees to what Bansal calls the "four bodies" approach to biohacking – categorising wellness strategies into Earth (physical), Water (emotional), Air (mental), and Fire (spiritual) domains.
"True health is not just the absence of disease," Bansal told the audience gathered at the three-day summit. "True health is when you don't just survive, you thrive, perform, evolve, and flow."
Beyond conventional medicine
Bansal, who works as a laparoscopic cancer surgeon and hospital director when not speaking at international biohacking events, emphasised that his approach stems from both medical science and personal experimentation. With a social media following exceeding 112,000, he has become a prominent voice advocating for science-based approaches to longevity.
"Biohacking isn't about adding superpowers," he explained. "It's about rediscovering the superpowers already inside each and every one of you."
The surgeon challenged the conventional wisdom that we have only one body to care for, instead proposing that humans have four distinct but interconnected domains that require specific optimisation strategies.
The earth body: physical foundations
For the physical or "earth body," Bansal highlighted five key biohacks beginning with cellular hydration, which he described as fundamental to performance. "Just a two percent drop in your body's water percentage can physically and mentally reduce your performance by up to twenty percent—without you even knowing it," he said.
Other physical optimisations included gut microbiome diversity ("grow your inner rainforest"), VO2 max tracking, muscle strength training, and prioritising deep sleep. On the latter, Bansal offered a stark warning: "Just one night of sleep deprivation can make you as insulin resistant as a prediabetic."
The water body: emotional resilience
The "water body" domain focuses on emotional wellbeing, with Bansal introducing the concept of the "blue mind" – a parasympathetic nervous system state originally described by marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols.
"It's a mildly meditative state we all reflexively achieve near or in water," Bansal explained, before sharing his own experiences with underwater meditation.
Other emotional resilience strategies included ice plunges, heart rate variability (HRV) monitoring, breathwork, gratitude journaling, and nature therapy. The surgeon noted that "exposure to forests releases phytoncides which boost natural killer cell activity by fifty percent," highlighting the physiological impact of emotional regulation techniques.
The air body: cognitive enhancement
For mental optimisation, Bansal advocated non-sleep deep rest (NSDR) meditation, neuroplasticity through learning new skills, regular reading, CO2 tolerance training, and digital detoxing.
On the unusual practice of CO2 tolerance training, he explained: "Low CO2 tolerance leads to quick breathlessness and poor focus; high CO2 tolerance equals calm under pressure, sharper thinking, and better stamina."
Bansal also addressed modern attention challenges, noting that "the average person checks their phone 2,600 times a day, fragmenting attention."
The fire body: purpose and flow
Perhaps most intriguing was Bansal's approach to the "fire body" – focusing on purpose, spiritual connection, and peak performance states. He cited research suggesting that "if you have a strong sense of purpose, you increase your lifespan by seven years, beyond normal health factors."
Other fire body biohacks included fasting for cellular cleanup, sunlight exposure for circadian rhythm regulation, heart-brain coherence (where "the heart sends more signals to the brain than the other way around"), and flow state training.
On flow states, Bansal outlined a four-stage cycle: struggle, release, flow, and recovery – accompanied by a "cocktail of neurochemicals" including dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, endorphins, norepinephrine, and anandamide.
Nature as teacher
Throughout his talk, Bansal returned to natural examples, including the immortal jellyfish's ability to reset its cellular age, and insights gained from his experiences as a bird photographer and scuba diver.
"Nature is my biggest ally and teacher," he said. "In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks."
The presentation concluded with a reminder that biohacking is ultimately about perspective shift rather than technological intervention. "When you stop surviving and start thriving," Bansal said, "you live not just longer, but higher, deeper, and fuller."
