Cohen described his own profile as including predispositions toward lower serotonin, lower dopamine activity, reduced BDNF support, altered GABA and cannabinoid signaling, and an overactivated HPA axis, all intensified by inflammation. The significance of such a profile, as he presented it, was not that it explained everything, but that it made intervention more targeted.
Neuroticism, Reframed
One of the most provocative themes in the talk was Cohen’s challenge to the assumption that core personality traits are largely stable. He focused especially on neuroticism, the broad psychological category that encompasses anxiety, guilt, self-doubt, instability and susceptibility to negative emotion.
