It was less slogan than diagnosis. Much of adult life, Arina implied, was spent trapped in RAIN.

Drawing on Daniel Kahneman’s distinction between fast and slow thinking, Arina cast habit change as a struggle between automaticity and effortful awareness. System 1 was quick, efficient and mostly unconscious. System 2 was slower, more energy-intensive and where genuine change became possible.
The catch, of course, was that System 2 was tiring. It demanded attention in a world designed to fragment it. That was why people so often failed when they set themselves heroic targets. The problem was not lack of moral fibre so much as a misunderstanding of how the mind adopted new behaviour.
Arina’s answer was to lower the bar until resistance became almost absurd. If someone wanted to exercise, he advised, they should not begin with six punishing gym sessions a week. They should attach a tiny action to an existing routine. Hold a stretch while the coffee brewed. Do a brief static pose while breakfast cooked. Make the action so small that it could survive bad moods, busy mornings and the thousand excuses that usually derail ambition.
Repeated long enough, he said, for roughly eight weeks, such acts could pass from conscious strain into subconscious routine. The point was not intensity. It was installation.
The Environment As Destiny
If there was a single idea that carried the emotional force of the talk, it was Arina’s insistence that willpower had been overrated. Behaviour, he said, changed most reliably when environment changed first.
“It is not about willpower; it is about how you hack your environment so that it supports your growth,” he said. “When you change your environment, you change yourself.”
This was biohacking stripped of gimmick and returned to first principles. Rearrange the room. Remove the triggers. Add friction to bad habits and reduce friction for good ones. Keep the phone out of reach in the morning. Use a separate computer for deep work. Create a physical context that makes the desired behaviour easier than its opposite.
It was a profoundly material view of freedom. Human beings did not rise above their surroundings by sheer force of character. More often, they were moulded by architecture, tools, lighting, schedules, screens and the silent expectations embedded in every place they entered.
Home, Arina suggested, functioned like software. Step into it and whole behavioural programs began to run.
The Tyranny Of The Phone And The Promise Of Measurement
No modern environment exerts more constant pressure than the smartphone, and Arina treated it as both symptom and battleground. The device, he suggested, had become a near-neurotic extension of the self, rewarding compulsive checking with intermittent doses of dopamine. Notifications, social validation and endless digital novelty had turned attention into an extractive economy.
His prescription was not complete renunciation, but awareness plus design. Use tools that track screen time. Notice the unlock frequency. Categorise digital activities by whether they nourish, distract or drain. Insert conscious pauses before reaching for the device. Pair the impulse to check with a deep exhalation, transforming a reflex into a cue for regulation.
This was where quantified self practice entered the stage not as vanity, but as revelation. Data, from sleep trackers to apps such as RescueTime or phone-use monitors, could illuminate the habits people failed to see unaided. Patterns became visible. And once visible, they became difficult to deny.
In the question-and-answer session, Arina said he paid particular attention to heart rate variability and resting heart patterns through the Oura ring, using them as proxies for recovery and nervous system balance. Sleep duration mattered less, he suggested, than whether the body had truly restored itself.
Cold Showers, Gratitude And The Discipline Of Recovery
Some of Arina’s methods had the theatrical edge typical of the biohacking world. He spoke approvingly of cold thermogenesis and morning cold showers as a way of priming the mind for stress and increasing calm under pressure. Yet even here, the principle was not macho endurance. It was adaptation.
Likewise, his endorsement of nightly gratitude journaling was less sentimental than strategic. Human beings, he argued, were biased toward threat detection and pessimism. By recording three things each evening to feel grateful for, they could gradually retrain attention toward possibility rather than danger. Optimism, on this view, was not naive. It was trainable.
“If you train your brain to be optimistic and focus on the positive side of life every single day, you change your perspective to life completely,” he said.
This insistence on recovery as the true site of growth formed one of the talk’s strongest rebukes to contemporary performance culture. Progress did not occur during the stimulus alone, whether in exercise, work or learning. It happened in the integration that followed.
“Growth doesn’t happen during the stimulus; growth happens in rest,” Arina said. “You must find the wisdom to balance high performance with restoration to truly master yourself.”
The Cell Hears Your Response
As the lecture widened from habits to biology, Arina moved into the language of epigenetics and cellular response. The body’s cells, he argued, did not interpret life through narrative or meaning. They responded to chemistry. Cortisol, inflammatory signals, oxytocin, growth factors: these were the messages that mattered.
“The cell doesn’t see what you see; it sees your response to the environment,” he said. “If you change your response, you open the door for growth and positive epigenetic change.”
