The modern wellness world has a weakness for spectacle. It loves the glowing panel, the wearable score, the supplement with a futuristic name. “Working out several times a week doesn't have to be hard or extremely heavy, but you have to do it,” Gethin said. “Building your body increases your bone density and metabolic activity, which are both essential for longevity.”

Digestion, Presence And Metabolism Were Treated As Deeply Linked

His broader point was that health cannot be isolated into nutrient profiles alone. It is shaped by nervous system state, by environmental exposure, by rhythm, by attention.
Fasting Was Presented As A Counterweight To Constant Feeding
For athletes, especially those raised on the doctrine of frequent meals, Gethin proposed a strategic interruption: fasting on non-training days. The logic was rooted in cellular housekeeping. Constant feeding, he argued, keeps growth pathways such as mTOR activated while reducing opportunities for autophagy, the self-cleaning process associated with repair and resilience.
His prescription was measured rather than absolutist. He suggested roughly 18-hour fasts, with room for shorter protocols for some women, and even acknowledged that some individuals might use essential amino acids during those windows.
The point was not starvation. It was relief. Relief for the digestive system, relief from continual environmental toxin exposure through food packaging and processing, relief from the assumption that health means perpetual intake.
In a fitness culture that often equates discipline with more meals, more supplements and more precision, fasting was framed as a way to reclaim metabolic flexibility.
Biohacking, In His Telling, Was Useful When It Reduced Stress Rather Than Added To It
Gethin moved through a familiar roster of biohacking tools: blue-light blocking glasses, red-light exposure, earthing, grounding, cold therapy and hyperbaric oxygen. Yet what distinguished his presentation was less the novelty of the interventions than the philosophy connecting them. Their value, he suggested, lay in helping the body resist the distortions of modern living.
Blue light and artificial indoor exposure were discussed in relation to cortisol and testosterone regulation. Earthing was framed as a response to the invisible pressures of contemporary environments saturated with wireless signals and electrical noise. These claims sat at the more controversial edge of wellness discourse, but for Gethin they formed part of a larger worldview: the body is under siege from inputs it did not evolve to handle, and recovery now requires environmental literacy as much as physical effort.
He extended that thinking to food storage, plastics, microwaves and non-stick cookware, warning that athletes, by virtue of eating more often, may accumulate a greater toxic burden than less active people. The body that looks robust from the outside, he implied, may still be absorbing damage internally.
Antioxidants Were Not Dismissed, But Their Timing Was Everything
The most nuanced part of the talk came in Gethin’s discussion of antioxidants. In wellness culture they are often treated as uncomplicated goods, a category of substances that can only help. Gethin complicated that assumption.
Yes, oxidative stress is real. Yes, modern life exposes people to pollutants, artificial light, plastics and free radicals. Yes, antioxidants can support resilience. He mentioned hydrogen-rich water, C60, quercetin and N-acetylcysteine as tools he favoured, particularly during travel or periods of elevated stress.
But when it came to exercise adaptation, he argued, timing mattered. High doses of **vitamin C** and **vitamin E** taken too close to a workout may blunt the hormetic response, the beneficial stress signal through which training produces adaptation. The body, in his view, needs some degree of trauma in order to rebuild stronger.
This was the central paradox of the session, captured in its title: what heals in one context may harm in another. Too little recovery impairs progress, but too much intervention too soon can also dilute the very stimulus that makes training effective.
The Larger Warning Was Against Turning Health Into A Source Of Anxiety
For all the discussion of protocols, therapies and biomarkers, Gethin’s most humane observation may have been his rejection of obsessive self-quantification. The contemporary biohacking economy thrives on measurement, on the promise that every fluctuation can be tracked, scored and optimised. He suggested that this compulsion can become its own form of physiological stress.
“Sometimes the stress of trying to quantify every detail can cause more anxiety,” he said. “Bring things back to our ancestral wisdom and control your health from the head down rather than letting trackers overwhelm you.”
It was a striking line at an event built in part around optimisation culture. Gethin did not dismiss data outright. He acknowledged the value of blood glucose monitors and other tools. But he argued for discernment, even rest from measurement itself. Some clients, he noted, slept better only after being told to stop tracking sleep.
In that, the talk widened beyond athletics. It became a commentary on a broader modern condition: the way the search for control can produce the very dysregulation it hopes to eliminate.
A Philosophy Of Health That Began With Effort And Ended With Restraint
Gethin also spoke personally about his own journey into biohacking, which he traced to mold toxicity and the discovery that apparent fitness does not necessarily equal health. He said he had spent years reversing a biological age that once exceeded his chronological age, all while maintaining a demanding athletic life.
His solutions ranged from the foundational to the advanced. On one end sat lifting, fasting, sleep and mindful eating. On the other sat peptides, stem cells and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. That mix reflected the hybrid identity of the summit itself, where ancestral rhetoric and futuristic intervention often sit side by side.
