At Biohacker Summit 2020 Helsinki, held in Helsinki, Finland, on 16 October 2020, Aivis Vegers delivered a talk that was part provocation, part meditation on biology, and part plea for humility before nature. Toward the end of the presentation, Vegers widened the frame. Tree chemistry, he suggested, was not an isolated subject. It was part of a larger web of microscopic life that includes the human microbiome.
He spoke of the gut as a densely populated inner ecosystem, home to immense numbers of bacteria whose scale and complexity defy ordinary imagination. That hidden world, he argued, mirrors the hidden worlds beneath forests and within soils.
